How Do You Know? Indigenous Ways of Knowing and The Natural World
This talk will focus on Indigenous ways of coming to know that are grounded in intimate
relationships with the natural world from the beginning. My aim is to help create a lens through
which to begin understanding the place of Indigenous ways in relation to the natural sciences.
Beginning with an overview of why educators are asked to make space for Indigenous
epistemologies and ontologies in higher education, the presentation will move into an
introduction to Indigenous knowledges, and highlight how we can all benefit from different ways
of knowing about our world.
