We are a committed group of Alberta educators who work together to promote the best educational experience for aspiring biologists.
The Undergraduate Biology Educators of Alberta (UBEA) is a group of biology educators working in Alberta to promote the best educational experience for aspiring biologists. As part of our mandate, UBEA is committed to promoting reconciliation, diversity, equity, and inclusivity (RDEI) both in our community membership, and in the undergraduate biology educational experience for students in our classrooms. UBEA welcomes active participation by all individuals regardless of gender, race/ethnicity, national origin, LGBTQIA+ identity, religious identity, age, socioeconomic status, or disability status. We are committed to proactively transforming undergraduate pedagogical practices in biology towards creating a decolonized, diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for educators and students alike.
The Undergraduate Biology Educators of Alberta normally meets once a year at one of the various college and university campuses around our province. We take turns hosting the event.
Although the association has been meeting unofficially for many years, we became a registered society in 2013. With a new board structure in place and the opportunity to organize our finances, the UBEA has become more sustainable and stable. We look forward to continuing our work of supporting our teaching colleagues and sharing ideas and resources between our post-secondary institutions.

If you have any questions, ideas, or if you want to become a member, please contact one of the Executives at the right. We are inclusive: you need not be a biologist or a professor. Anyone interested in promoting effective and engaging biology education is welcome.
